Hot Summer of Romanian Theatre



This is the end of a hot summer for Romanian theatre: you can read all about it in the third issue of Scena.ro.

JUNE Scena.ro has prepared in its third issue a report from Paris about the tour of the „The desease of M Family”, directed by Radu Afrim in Timisoara National Theatre and invited for the end of the season by Odéon Théàtre in Paris.

What are the managerial secrets of Sibiu theatre leader, Constantin Chiriac, who runs the most toured theatre in the country, you can find out from the interview given to Scena.ro magazine. The editors and collaborators of the magazine write about „Woyzeck”, the latest production of Ukrainian director Andriy Zholdak, about an outstanding Japanese Titus Andronicus, about Silviu Purcarete’s premiere with „Metamorphosis” after Ovid and about other events in the well-known festival that marked the end of the season in Sibiu/Romania.

JULY The summer continued with a rich presence of Hungarian Theatre in Cluj in Avignon – OFF, with „Naître a Jamais” by Visky Andras, directed by Tompa Gábor. Interviews with the director an the playwright in the next issue, middle of September.

AUGUST Of course, the most important success remains the invitation of „Faust”, an adaptation after Goethe, directed by Silviu Purcărete, a production of National Theatre from Sibiu, in the official section of Edinburgh Festival between 18 and 22nd of August. Actress Ofelia Popii was awarded The Herald Angel Award for her performance of Mephistopheles in Purcarete’s Faust.
